The Candy Crush Saga is one of the most popular tile-matching games since Tetris. It may be getting up there in age, but its legacy is secured, having inspired hundreds of online games.

At its core, Candy Crush is simple. You try to get a higher score by aligning three or more candy tiles on a digital board.

Today, there are countless games like Candy Crush, featuring boards with tiles or symbols that need to align to trigger a win or increase your score.

I checked about 50 games and curated the 10 best for my taste.

Online slots are highly adaptable. As an enthusiast, I’ve come across numerous titles that clearly draw inspiration from Candy Crush, both in design and gameplay. Here are the top 10 games like Candy Crush that you can enjoy in various modes, including free play or with real money.

The Top 10 Candy Crush Alternatives Up Close

I want to quickly share my thoughts on the ten selected games like Candy Crush. I’ll be going over what makes them different and how they stack up against the big hit.

Sugar Rush 1000

Sugar Rush 1000, the follow-up to Pragmatic Play’s awesome Sugar Rush, has that cool Candy Crush vibe with a 7×7 grid where you win by lining up five or more symbols horizontally or vertically. You’ll see all sorts of candy, like jelly bears, stars, and hearts. Plus, with the tumbling reels, winning symbols disappear and new ones drop down, so you can rack up consecutive wins.

Want to amp up your game? You can pay to buy some free spins or even super free spins. Even without those, exploding symbols create multipliers from 2x all the way up to a massive 1024x. You can play Sugar Rush 1000 just for kicks or for real money, starting with a minimum bet of just $0.20.

Sweet Kingdom

Sweet Kingdom, also created by Pragmatic Play, shifts from familiar candy symbols to feature various sweets and cakes, maintaining the same ambient music and theme. Its layout matches Sugar Rush 1000, with seven reels and seven rows, where tumbling cluster wins form from five to fifteen matching symbols anywhere on the grid.

Notably, it includes potentially lucrative features like the treasure chest ‘money symbol’ and the ‘collect’ symbol, represented by a key. The money symbol offers multipliers from x0.5 up to x20, while the key collects the money symbols on the screen.

Scatter symbols can trigger free spins randomly when three or more appear. I appreciated the feature buy option, allowing you to purchase free spins for as little as $20.

Fruitylicious Double Max

This game marks a significant change for developer Yggdrasil’s Viking-themed slots, but it remains just as enjoyable.

The grid is smaller than in the previous two titles, with three rows and five reels. There is a variety of candy and cake symbols in the base game, along with tumbling reels. Three or more matching symbols trigger wins. However, there’s a little twist.

Successive wins with the tumbling reels increase a win multiplier, starting from x1 and going up to x2,000. Additionally, a wild symbol appears after every win, increasing the chances of hitting multiple wins in a row.

The game can randomly trigger free spin symbols, or you can buy one of the available free spin packages. They also have the option to activate the Golden Bet to double their chances of winning free spins

Super Sugar Pop Hold and Win

This game can be pretty wild! Wins don’t come around super often, and you’ll need at least eight matching symbols to snag one.

The main event, “hold and win,” kicks off when you land at least eight of those chocolate-covered sphere bonus symbols. Once it’s active, keep an eye out for special Double, Collect, and Crush symbols – they can either double up, collect, or totally crush your existing bonus symbols.

A cool new addition is the free spins feature. It comes with exploding bombs that can give you multipliers from x2 all the way up to x100. You’ll need four scatter symbols to unlock 10 free spins. Just a heads-up, there’s no buying your way into them like in some of the other games.

Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter

Sweet Bonana Super Scatter follows in the footsteps of the original Sweet Bonanza, at least in terms of theme, design, audiovisuals, and layout (6×5). There are all sorts of candy symbols, fruits, lollipops, and other sweets that are a clear nod to Candy Crush.

However, this game, despite being similar to previous Pragmatic Play candy-themed slots, features random multipliers. In the free spin rounds (which you can buy), random multipliers can climb up to x100.

You’ll need to be patient and keep an eye out for the Scatter or Super Scatter symbols, which activate the free spin rounds. And listen to this: when anywhere from one to four Super Scatters combine with three to four regular Scatter symbols, they pay between x100 and as much as x50,000 of your current bet.

Sweet Bonanza 1000

Sweet Bonanza 1000 is a cool new take on the original game, and it’s not the same as the Super Scatter version.

It keeps a lot of what made the first one popular, but bumps up those random multipliers to x1,000. That’s a big jump from the x100 in Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter.

You can toggle the double chance button to make it more likely to trigger the bonus game. The game is very volatile, but the base game actually gives out wins pretty often, usually every 3-7 spins.

You can snag regular free spins for at least $20, or if you’re feeling lucky, super free spins for A$100. Those super free spins can be a sweet deal, seriously bump up your chances for big wins thanks to the candy bomb multipliers and consecutive tumbling wins. Plus, if you hit new lollipop scatters during the bonus game, you’ll grab an extra five re-spins.

Big Sugar Bonanza (Stakelogic)

‘Bonanza’ style games like Candy Crush are unique because they offer real chances for big wins, even with low stakes. Stakelogic’s Big Sugar Bonanza follows this pattern.

To win, you need to match at least five low-paying candy and cake symbols anywhere on a 7×7 grid. The cluster wins engine enhances the gameplay by increasing the ways to form winning symbol combinations: from right to left, left to right, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

Additionally, a random mystery multiplier can appear in the base game. It increases with every winning symbol, starting from x2 and up to x512 of your bet.

The scene is a sugary kingdom with mountains of ice cream, lollipop trees, and bubble-gum clouds. A playful ‘fluffkin’ accompanies you, serving as a bonus symbol that can activate free spins. You need at least three fluffkins for 10 free spins.

Yommi Rush (BGaming)

BGaming has quickly become one of the most sought-after software providers after releasing a series of great games. Its game-crafting mastery is on display in Yommi Rush, a glittery, sweet visual delight and an action-packed game that draws a lot from the original Candy Crush.

The board has eight reels and eight rows, more than any of the games like Candy Crush that I’ve come across. It pays in clusters of 7 to 25 or more of the glittery candy symbols.

You can purchase one of three bonuses, including free spins and the Yommi boost. The Yommi boost modifies the game’s software, increasing the likelihood of landing bonus symbols and activating the bonus game.

The scatter-wild symbol, represented by a furry one-eyed little creature, adds multipliers with two or more consecutive wins.

Candy Blitz

Candy Blitz is another action-packed game that borrows many ideas from Candy Crush. Visually, the shiny, low-paying candy symbols, the vibrant background, and lively sounds create a playful atmosphere.

The game focuses on multipliers, featuring six reels and five rows. You need at least eight matching symbols anywhere on the reels to win. There’s a seventh reel where candy symbols with multipliers (up to x50) land on every spin.

After each win, the reels tumble, and new symbols replace the winning ones. This pairs well with the multipliers to boost your payout multiple times if you hit several wins in succession.

You can earn free spins with at least four scatters, or buy your way into the free spins round.

Aztec Clusters

Instead of candy tiles, symbols are represented by gems and Mesoamerican masks. Instead of sweet castles and bubble gum clouds, tribal sounds and a wild jungle surround the 6-reel, 8-row grid.

Yet, Aztec Clusters is full of style and, in many ways, similar to Candy Crush. Tile-like stones and mak symbols form cluster pays with at least five identical symbols.

Multipliers can fill out marked empty cells after a regular win to boost winnings through the cell multiplier feature. The Booster symbol further adds to the size of the win when it combines with the cell multipliers.

With extra features like the ‘Destroyer’ symbol, ‘Wild Spin,’ and buy free spins option, Aztec Clusters promises engaging tile-forming gameplay.

Final Thoughts About Candy Crush Alternatives

Candy Crush has truly stood the test of time. Even after thirteen years, it’s still a favourite in the busy world of online gaming. But let’s face it, having some options is a good thing.

As the digital gaming world evolved, new and exciting games like Candy Crush entered the scene. Some offer simple score-keeping modes, while others, like the slots we talked about earlier, add fun twists and extra features.

I love Candy Crush Saga, and I also want to give a shoutout to the creativity of some slot games that use it as a foundation. Features like free spins, wild symbols, bonus rounds, and creative ways to win – like tumbling reels and cluster pays – make these games immersive and potentially very rewarding.
