Blackjack insurance offers protection against the dealer’s blackjack hands. This side bet can be placed during the round, after the initial deal, while the dealer’s hole card remains hidden.
When opting for this, you essentially bet the dealer will get blackjack. As such, it is only a smart move when the dealer’s face-up card is a 10-value card or an Ace. Still, the odds of getting blackjack from any of the above remain low. Thus, this strategy is worthwhile only if you can pull your weight in card counting. But even then, it should be used with caution.
Games like video blackjack or single-player blackjack do not strategically offer insurance since card counting is out of the picture. On the other hand, blackjack insurance can be a great winning strategy in Multihand Blackjack.
