If you are up for a heart-stopping dance performance in Vegas, the Jabbawockeez Las Vegas at the MGM Grand is for you.
The Jabbawockeez are a male-only hip-hop dance troupe that first rose to prominence with their appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2006. The Jabbawockeez reached incredible stardom by winning the MTV Hip Hop reality series America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) in March of 2008. This accolade gave them the boost they needed to become America’s best-known dance group.
The name Jabbawockeez comes from Lewis Caroll’s fantastical monster in his nonsense poem Jabberwocky. The beast also appears in Carroll’s children’s story Through the Looking-Glass.
Their signature white masks and gloves might remind someone of the creepy ones from the horror movie Hollywood and its psycho serial killer Michael Myers. But this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Their masks are a tribute to Medea Sirkas’s San Francisco crew and they symbolize the group’s philosophy. Their philosophy is: Once we put on the masks, it’s not important who we are or where we came from. We become one.
It’s a strong message from a dance group whose dance acts are nothing short of spectacular. They have been performing complicated choreographies across the Last Vegas Strip since 2013.
