Southern Nevada Health District warns of measles exposure on the Strip

The Southern Nevada Health District issued warnings of measles exposure on the Strip caused by a tourist who carried the viral infection and may have spread it to others. It has also been reported that the infected tourist visited different spots on the strip including Mandalay Bay and the Luxor as well as touring in Downtown Las Vegas.

Measles is a highly contagious infection and can take up to 21 days to begin after being exposed. Usually, an infected person will develop fever within the first 10 days, which can last up to two to four days peeking as high as 105 degrees. Other symptoms might include coughing and a runny nose. On overage, it could take up to 14 days for a rash to develop starting at the hairline and moving to the face and neck until it reaches the hands and feet.

According to the Southern Nevada Health District,

“measles can spread approximately four days before the rash appears and four days after.”
