News has been circulating that the NHL chose Las Vegas to become one of its hub cities for resuming the season.
Rob Fai tweeted “Not sure who the other hub cities are but Las Vegas is in. League has venues financially secured as well as accommodation and transportation.”
Las Vegas has already been preparing to host the NHL this summer with 6-8 teams per hotel. Plans have also been made concerning how the players will get tested and how they will travel to and from the games.
“Nevada also hasn’t been hit as hard as many other parts of the United States, with only 485 of the country’s 1115,576 death toll coming from the state,” Daily Hive.
It is not yet clear if hub cities will be allowed to host their home teams, but this is yet to be revealed by the NHL.
It is noteworthy to mention that the season will resume without spectators and that the schedule is yet to be announced.
Las Vegas the perfect location to host the NHL
Las Vegas is designed entirely to host large events like the NHL. Over and above, the city has great playing arenas and practice facilities.
“Many of the cities in which the NHL is considering resuming play have been seized by massive protests over police brutality,” CBC.
This left fewer cities between the United States and Canada with the capability of hosting such big events.
Las Vegas is ready to host the NHL especially since Governor Steve Sisolak relaxed many of the closure measures weeks ago.
With restaurants, hotels, and casinos opening gradually the city will be ready to host what remains of the NHL season this summer.
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak, “Nevada is a premier travel destination and will always be a warm and welcoming spot for visitors. We have strong systems in place to help protect Nevadans and our visitors.”
Currently, gyms and fitness facilities, pools and water parks, indoor malls, amusement parks are operating at a 50% capacity rate. As well, they enforce strict social distancing measure to ensure the safety of everyone.
NHL training camps are already back
24 teams will start training in preparation to resume play this summer and teams will be allowed to train in their home cities after meeting medical and safety conditions.
“Obviously that’s good news for us, having the date of July 10,” Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly said. “It’s kind of what we’ve been waiting for. And I think if you ask most players, the hardest part of it all was the uncertainty.”
