Las Vegas still remembers the days of the Center Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel. Unfortunately, convening again at the center of the casino floor at what was once a leading late-night, off-Strip spot isn’t possible.
However, Virgin Hotels Las Vegas has revealed plans for its signature cocktail lounges in the 8,500-square-foot Common Club. The entertainment wing will be located to the right side of the main entrance, occupying the former CG Technology sportsbook and bar space. Initially, Wasted Space occupied that space.
Joining the new 24/7 café, The Kitchen at Commons Club, and Funny Library Coffee Shop in the property’s resort-wide update are the new hot spots The Shag Room and The Bar at Commons Club. Virgin Hotels Las Vegas CEO and president Richard “Boz” Bosworth said The Bar and The Shag Room are meant to naturally pull a crowd from the main entrance of the property.
At one time, Center Bar was a focal point like these two spaces are now. However, the management has moved the location for such a meeting space.
Speaking via a phone chat on Monday afternoon, Bosworth said that The Bar and The Shag Room were adjoining ultralounges that resembled Clique at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas or Alibi at Aria, “but combined.” He added that the two are what the Center Bar would be if they expanded it.
Bosworth said the combination of the spaces will be the focal point from the entrance, “as well as a lounge and nightlife experience.”
The Shag Room will host social events and private functions. Also, it will provide live entertainment. Similarly, The Bar will offer entertainment in “multiple gathering spaces,” as the executive describes it.
The new sportsbook/viewing annex is called Money, Baby! It’s an indoor-outdoor sports retreat from Clive Collective and co-founder Justin Massei. The company’s sports wagering, interactive games, unconventional food and cocktails, and a vibrant atmosphere will keep visitors busy late into the night.
Money, Baby! will also feature pools and patios as part of the trend of the evolving Las Vegas sportsbooks.
This month, the hotel will reveal the details of the 5-acre pool area and event deck, plus the new opening date.
Bosworth said that they were elaborating on “what will open, and when.” He added that they wanted all their team members to return to work and the “customer base that has been so loyal since the days of the Hard Rock Hotel to come back.”
Bosworth also said that they were “thinking of welcoming” guests over the next decade.
